Tali Barani Collective
Tali Barani is a flagship project by Credit Union Sauan Sibarrung (CU Sauan Sibarrung) in Tana Toraja, Indonesia. Spanning 5.5 hectares across seven locations, the Tali Barani farms are owned and cultivated by a small community of Torajan farmers, who are cooperative members of CU Sauan Sibarrung.
CU Sauan Sibarrung aims to uplift smallholder Toraja farmers through its mentorship and empowerment program. Farmers in the program are bridged with subject expertise and trained in all aspects of farm management, from cultivation, harvesting, sorting, to post-harvest processing. CU Sauan Sibarrung also provides opportunities for members to connect and learn from one another and provided specialised guidance on their farms where possible.
Tali Barani beans offers a distinct flavor profile, shaped by the region’s volcanic soil, high altitude of 1300 to 1500 masl, and unique microclimate. The beans typically exhibit a rich, full-bodied taste with low acidity, featuring prominent notes of dark chocolate and complemented by hints of spice, such as cinnamon or clove, and a subtle fruitiness reminiscent of dried figs or red berries.
